Getting Started

Where do I begin?

TravelNurseGateway.com is a free agent. We are not a subsidiary of one of the big companies. Why is that important to you? It means that we won’t be limited in terms of which companies we can present to you, so your opportunities won’t be limited either. You’ll be confident that you’re getting the complete picture of the best of what’s out there for you – not just a small slice of what’s available. As our company name suggests, we’ll treat you the way you deserve to be treated. If you have any additional questions not listed below, feel free to reach out to us at (866) 496-8066.

What You Need to Know

To be considered a Travel Nurse, you are required to have an active RN license, holding either an Associates or Bachelors Degree. If you are working in the United States you may also need to get an additional licensure in the state that you will be working for as a travel nurse. If you obtain your original licensure as a Nurse “Compact State” such as Florida, Texas, or Arizona, you have what is called a compact state license which means no additional licenses is needed.

Along with the appropriate license, you will need to be up to date with your BLS (Basic Life Support) and ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support).

To become a TravelNurse you must have at least one year minimum of acute care experience, but often we find agencies are looking for two years of experience.

What Are the Steps to Becoming a Travel Nurse?

It’s as easy as filling out any job application. Once you’re done, you just click, and it’s submitted instantly. Your information is kept completely private, and you’re under no obligation.

Do Your Research Without Leaving Your Chair?

You’ll notice our online application form provides information and links to all our current partners. You can click to be taken directly to their Web sites and do a little homework—deciding which ones you’d like to apply to. Or, you can submit the form to all of those listed on our site. Either way, there’s only one form to fill out! Once each company has reviewed your application, that agency will have a recruiter get in touch with you. Don’t want multiple recruiters calling? Just select the company or companies that you want to work with. Or, maybe you’d love to have multiple recruiters with multiple offers competing for your time and talents? You can get that too. It’s up to you.

Complete Your Application

Have you looked into all the companies Travelnursegateway.com is currently working with? We partner with only the top travel nursing agencies in the United States. Fill out your online form and your information is instantly sent to each one of them. Alternately, you may have decided to choose only one or a few of these agencies. You can check off the ones that interest you, and your application will only go to those companies and no one else.

Communicate with your Recruiter

Once you have submitted your application to the agencies you selected, you will receive calls, sometimes texts and even emails in response to your new travel assignment that you applied for. During the application process, please make sure you state how you wish to be contacted. The recruiters are there to help you find your dream location, ensure highest pay, and will answer all of your questions. Immediate communication is very important.

Choose Your Next Assignment

Are you interested in working in a big city hospital or a small town? Do you long to see New England’s fall foliage, the ski slopes of the Rockies, or Florida’s sunny beaches? Do you want to stay fairly close to home or travel the U.S. with your family and fury loved ones? Your recruiter can help you evaluate the advantages of each assignment so you can decide which one is best for you.

Conduct a Telephone Interview

Once you’ve decided on an assignment, the recruiter will arrange for you to speak with the hiring manager at that health facility. This will usually be a nurse manager. During the telephone interview, you’ll be asked questions about your skills and experience. Your recruiter can help you prepare for the interview, so you’ll have the best chance of getting the assignment of your choice.

Get Ready to Travel

Now you’re ready to go! The traveling nurse company will help you with requirements for credentials and licensing in that particular state. A housing specialist will make arrangements for your housing, utilities, and furniture delivery. You’ll also get travel directions to your temporary address and workplace. Once you’re settled in, they’ll follow up with you to make sure you have everything you need.
